I love the software Magix creates. It’s simple to use, has great user interfaces and allows you to become productive within less than an hour. MMM “Rock Edition” is no exception

Magix Music Maker Rock EdtionNot so long ago I bought a few things online and was offered a coupon for Magix’s software. Of course I decided to visit the Magix’s website, .. and soon found there was some stuff I would like to buy, especially MMM’s Rock Edition.

In short, it’s a samples based music creation tool. That’s the short version. But, it can do so much more. In fact, it’s a (small) home studio. You could even record and produce a full album on it. Years ago, back in 2005 of 2006, I bought Magix’s  Music Studio 2004 on e-Bay.

After a few years I upgraded my computer, hardware and so on and Music Studio didn’t work on my new Windows environment. So I had to start looking for something else. I got a free program included with my USB Audio converter and use that for a time, but after searching long for a program that allowed me to do more than the average for less than the average price, I found Mixcraft and I love that DAW — it’s the best buy. By far.

But the coupon made me revisit Magix’s website and because of the coupon I could buy MMM Rock Edition for less than 20 euro’s so I decided to give it a try.

It comes with lots of stuff like:

  • 1,000 samples (drums, bass, guitar, keyboard, synths);
  • a “autosong” feature (sample below) called “Song Maker”;
  • a build in mixer;
  • a build in “drum” with some basic patterns you can vary all trough the song;
  • effects;
  • mastering suite,…
  • harmonize-function – shows the chords and allows you to play along.

And more. It also allows you to record from your mixer or plugin a guitar (USB, Audio card). It’s very easy to create a backing track or even a full song using the included samples and adding your own vocals and perhaps other instruments.

Interface

The interface of the Magix’s Music Maker Rock edition is very intuitive and easy to use. The screenshot below shows the “DAW”, the mixer and Mastering suite.

Sample recordings

Here are a few recordings I’ve created with it – it shows how good the audio sounds, especially how natural it sounds. The drums, guitars,.. it’s all very natural!

Songmaker
This track was created using the ‘songmaker’ feature. Afterwards I’ve tweaked the mix a little and applied some ‘mastering’ to it. Sounds pretty good if you ask me!

Original track (created using samples)
This is a track build around some samples included with MMM Rock Edition. It’s a “work in progress”, I might even use this on a future album!

How to get it (including free trial)

If you would like to get your feet wet and start home recording: this is the best bang for the buck. You can’t go wrong with this! Buy it online at Magix’s or download a free trial version trough  Download.com or Magix’s website.

Rating: 5stars

Pro’s: cheap, effective, easy to use home-recording software
Con’s: you cannot add other VST plugins. But this is no doubt related to the price.
