Well,.. this is one little tool I wanted to have for some time and yesterday it arrived! The Digitech Trio Band Creator. You might have heard about it, or seen the raving sponsored demo-videos on YouTube. But is it any good? Long story short: it’s awesome!
The Digitech TRIO Band Creator is modelled after the Band-in-A-Box software and they’ve put it in a pedal. With this pedal you have a full backing band at your fingertips.
It is the ideal tool for guitar players that need to do some quick songwriting, demo work or want to rehearse a song while the other band members are not available. Or, perfect for those that have no band around in their (little) home recording studio, like me.
I’m totally blown away by the sound and possibilities of this pedal. The bass, for example, even has “fret buzz”. The drums sound natural. Yes, it’s “from a box”. Sure. But where can you hire a band that can play 7 styles instantly. In many variations. Doesn’t get bored, doesn’t start cursing at you when you make the same mistake over and over again. Doesn’t get tired… Change the tempo without any problems. And on top of that you’ll have two different guitar effects common for the style to choose from. Or just natural sound.
I could go on and on about this pedal. And for 185 euros it’s a steel. Yes, that’s what I paid for it, at Peter Verspuy Muziek. And the shipped it for free. I’ve recorded a little (demo) track using the pedal.
How it works
The Digitech Trio Band Creator “learns” from what you play. You play a few chords, hit the footswitch, and it starts playing the bass and drums. You can edit the tempo, style, speed and so on with the knobs on the pedal. That’s it. The simplicity of this
tool pedal is just freaking awesome.
I’ve recorded a demo with it. The recording was done using the Digitech Trio Band Creator and playing rhythm guitar alongside (stereo track, one take) and after that I’ve added the lead, using the effect provided by the Digitech Trio Band Creator.
On the lead part I’ve added some additional reverb. And on the master bus there’s some compression. That’s it. You can listen to the demo at SoundCloud, click here or below.
